Japan, the land of the rising sun, the land of Anime and Manga and the strangest snacks ever. Were here to bet you didn’t know these 6 facts about Japan!
1) MORE ADULTS THAN KIDS
Japan has more adults than children, which is kind of sad because this means that childbirth is declining. Most adults in Japan don’t have enough money or time to support having a family. Japan is also home to
Kane Tanaka who is 116 years old.
Yakuza are Japanese gangsters who run organised crimes, and you may be asking, “Gangs? That’s common everywhere!?” But the amazing thing about the Yakuza are that they don’t need to hide as they are considered heroes by Japan. they have a large presence in the Japanese media and operate internationally with an estimated 102,000 members, talk about Irony. The Yakuza even give out business cards! Woah!
3) ISLANDS ISLANDS AND MORE ISLANDS
Japan has exactly 6,852 islands! Imagine learning geography in Japan! The 4 main Islands are Hokkaido, Honshu (the largest island, on which the capital, Tokyo is located), Shikoku and Kyushu.
4) CAT ISLANDS!
Who doesn’t love cute and cuddly cats! Well guess what, JAPAN HAS MANY ISLANDS FULL OF CATS! The cats were brought to the island to eliminate the rats on fishing boats but the populations soon started getting out of control. The population of the island is very small (around 95people) but there are more than 100-120 cats on the island.
In Japan, you do not great someone by shaking their hand, you bow to them. The deeper the bow, the more respect you are showing. Handshakes aren’t considered a proper greeting in Japan. Next time you visit, don’t shake hands, bow to whoever you are thankful to.
Okay, Japan, you need to chill with the snacks. Ranging from Rum Raisin and Brown Sugar flavors to WASABI? That’s one experience I DON’T wanna try. That’s not where the fun ends though, Oreos have flavors like green tea and pumpkin spice.
7) SLEEPING AT WORK
Ever been caught sleeping at work? Yeah, it’s not a fun experience. Why can’t old bossman just understand that we need a bit of sleep to work better!? Well Japan’s got you. If you fall asleep at work there, it’s a sign of working hard and they believe you’re napping because you need that energy to give your all to your work! Wish it worked like this everywhere else.
8) YOU DON’T NEED TO TIP
Tipping is a sign of appreciation right? Well you don’t need to tip in Japan. In fact it is considered rude in some situations. You need to pay at the register. Tipping also isn’t required for cab or bus rides and many hotel services. Neat!
